It hasn't been cold at all. Just windy and rainy. My absolutely FAVORITE weather! But, just the sound of a "Nor Easter" makes you think it will be cold. The time of year I appreciate my crock pot the most!

I like making it chunky, almost bohemian, with full or half mushrooms, and large meat chunks.

I love the feeling of coming home from work, and the whole house smells like dinner already! There is no real "recipe" for this stew - it's just all your favorite veggies, and if you like meat, throw that in too. My husband likes spicy stuff, so just to perk it up, I add some spicy Itallian sausage bits too (I boil and drain the sausage ahead of time so the stew won't be full of grease). This "formula" also works great for chili, another winter dish that warms the tummy and soul ! Especially when combined with warm rolls or corn bread !

Altar-ations...

After some minor room re-arrainging my altar has a bit of a new look, so, with some prompting from Hibuscus Moon to share our altars, I thought I would post it. Since my photography leaves alot to be desired, I'll give you the "guided tour": My illuminated Hecate idol is the centerpiece, with two small candle holders on each side. I still have some Samhain oil left in the two small oil lamps on each side, in front of the candle holders. I have the crescent moon oil / incense burner on the far left, which I've had for about 15 years (in spite of my hyper kitty!). In front of the cresecent moon are my tarot cards, and a small journal I keep notes in from my readings. And on the far right is my rosemary sachet. This is the typical set up, except for some minor changes, if I am doing something specific. The absolutely blank wall in the background is just waiting patiently for the right piece that calls out to me. So far, the blank wall gets my attention, almost to the point of distraction. I just can't resist a "blank palate". For me, it's worse than money burning a hole in my pocket. But I want to take my time and be rather selective about what I mount there. So for now, it is just what it is. I may put a mirror up until the just right piece finds it's home there.

I would love to see other's altars too.

*Peace and Blessings*

Disapearing Smudgesticks !

I rolled all my sage into newspaper rolls a couple weeks ago to dry it out so I could make up some smudge bundles.
Next time I know that one week is plenty, since these seemed a little dry for wrapping tightly.
The funny part was, I would wrap a bundle or two, then check food on the stove, or do something else, and when I came back, it seemed like I wasn't any further along with my project. Once, when I was sure I had four bundles rolled, I came back to find two. So, it didn't take much detective work to find the culprit.

There was our old faithful boy, caught red handed, chewing on a smudge stick ! I didn't think dogs even liked sage !!! What amazed me, was that he's never really that sly. Ane he NEVER gets up on the table ! Hmm.... So, a small repremand, and back to my task. (Very small repremand, as I am a real sucker when he gives me those adorable eyes ! )

So, of course, I come back to the table to find another one missing ! This time, I bust the caper wide open. It was a well though out plan. Our jinxy kitty would get up on the table, snag one of the bundles.....

Then when he grew board with it, or was in jeopardy of getting caught, he would pass the thing on to the dog...

..making it the ideal crime! I know I didn't put catnip in these, but anything I am working on becomes of great interest to kitty, and since he rules the house (in his mind anyway) it was just the way things went.
The funnyest thing was to see the two of them "punking" me ! The best time is in the morning when the moon is still bright while the sun is rising! For those few moments, both are shinning at the same time in a very delicate balance. Watching the moon fade slowly while the sky grows brighter is like listening to fine music, while sipping champgne :)

Since so many of us are being romanced by the same moon, I thought I would share an old full moon ritual ~ the origin is uncertain as it's been around for some time, and has been edited by many. The blame falls to my daughters boyfriend )

We did not exactly have a Samhain feast. Dinner was pretty ordinary in itself, and we didn't have a seat at the table for loved ones who have passed over, as some would do, although we probably should have.

We did enjoy this pumpkin cake though:
You know it's a good sign when it is half gone before I get a chance to take a picture! The recipe is compliments of Tammy's Sweet Life ~ and it was the easiest cake I have ever made.

The ingrediants are : Canned pumpkin and spice cake mix. Thats it!

You mix the two, put in a greased bundt pan and bake 35 - 45 minutes at 350 (do the toothpick test).

I drizzled mine with a little sugar and cinamon glaze. It's a moist cake, like pumpkin pie in the middle, and really yummy.

We had wonderful weather for the holiday. (well, in MY opinion). It was windy, wet and with misty rain. My husband and I took a walk in the misty rain along the canal near our house ~ a short walk ~ but very nice just the same.

I have a feeling my husbands grandmothers who have both passed may have been a bit miffed at the snub of being left out of our Samhain celebration. At 2:30 AM a "prank" email went out to several random people, from my husbands email address. It was a link to a web site for various medications. No real meaning, just odd (espeacially since the first medication listed was Viagra!). It went to some family members, the girl scout troup leader, and my daughters history teacher..... ! My husband was asleep when it went out~ and it came from his email address. He has no clue about how it happened, and has not been to that web site. I think it was a prank from one of his grandmothers who had that kind of sense of humor when they were alive.

<img width='1' dry it out. I'm getting a stock supply so I can make up some smudging bundles. A few hours later, I realized I had something that looked like alien cigars. I have never dried my sage this way before, and I don't remember now how long it takes this way, but I understand the newspapers help with absorbing the moisture and limits the chance for mold. I know there will be some "shrinkage", but I hope to end up with a good stock until my little cuttings have grown into something more substantial.

Walking on Water!

I'm really fortunate in these days of economic disaster and hybrid cars, that I can walk to and from work. The real perk is the beautiful surroundings of my walk. I cross the Delaware river daily (I know, most locals would not consider the Delaware "scenic", but I find beauty and magic almost every day in my travels).
*Please forgive my "rustic" photography skills ~ Ansel Adams has no threat from me... :)

I get to see my regular group of friends each day..... :)

The majority of my travel is along the elevated foot path that runs along the river.

On the right side of the river is the city where my office is........

And on the left side is the little town where I live.....

Crossing over is the best part....

From the middle of the bridge it is so wonderful~ when all the elements are in place. I used to be so tense by the time I got to my office, the negative energy was palpable. I can't help but gigle as I walk over the bridge, passing the traffic jams. I have my Ipod with my favorite music, and get home faster than it used to take just to get out of the city parking garage !! The oil is infused with Obsidian and Hematite, and smells just amazing! I love it!

The oil came in the pretty tan sparkle bag, and the pendulum has it's own pouch, as well as information about it.

Really couldn't be more pleased. I'm so glad I stumbled onto her site!!!!

I'm still new to pendulum practice, but I find my "learning" sessions to be very relaxing, and now I am really excited to begin practice with the amethyst. (drumroll...) I finally have a button !
Thank you so much Michelle - your such a dear!
And with the tip from Rue about using Citrine, and with the great prospertity spell that Charity emailed to me, theres just no stopping things now ! : )
I guess it's true, we really do get by with a little help from our friends
Aside from all the creative energy I have been riding buckshot with, I have been seeking ways to deepen my daily practice. I sometimes find I get so busy with my craft, that I have no time for my craft... if that makes any sense. I plan to bring in some of my wicker yard furniture this weekend since the frost setting in, and my hopes are to paint one of the pieces, and set up a nice alter area for some daily rituals and meditations. There was a nice idea on Vintage Sage's site about how she pulls one tarot card a day and lights candles as part of her daily rituals. This would work even with my crazy schedule. But, I do have the Oktoberfest this weekend as well, so I am already "double booking" myself : /
How do others find ways to work regular devotions and rituals into their day to day schedules ?
Rue recently wrote about a near "coming out" experience she had at work. It made me think, wouldn't it be a hoot for me to just pull out my cards, my pendulum, crystals, etc, even cast a circle, right there in my little office cubicle !!! : )
With the level of drama that flows in my office on any normal day - somehing like that would cause a major riot !!! Hmmm - tempting.... ; - )

Oktoberfest~apalooza~o'rama

Our town is having it's anual Oktoberfest ~ and I am doing a vendor table to peddle my wares :)

I did a few speacial Halloween candle holders since it is a favorite holiday for so many people!

I should have done a good fortune spell the night before - but I was working all night getting my stuff ready.

I am doing a table again next weekend - and I have plenty of inventory on hand ~ so next week I plan on spending my Friday night breaking in the new cauldron I got from Judith at Merlin's Mistress for a good fortune spell just to give things a little push. I decided this year to try making my own apple butter ! Since I know how to make apple sauce, it only seems right to take the next step. The butter takes more patience though - it's one of those things that should stew in the crock pot most of the day, making your house smell wonderful.

First - start with your own applesauce:

1 quart Apples (peeled and sliced)
1 cup Water
1/2 cup Sugar
1 tsp. Lemon Juice
Cinnamon to suite taste

1/4 tsp vanilla

slight pinch of nutmeg to suit taste

Preparation:
Put all the ingredients in a pot for about 30 minutes and cook until tender. Mash the mixture with a mixer or potato masher to the consistancy that suits you. Place in an airtight container in the refrigerator till cool. Enjoy !

Now - For the APPLE BUTTER: :)

You need a 5 quart crock pot!

4 quarts of applesauce
1 C. apple cider
1 Tbs. ground cinnamon
1 Tbs, ground cloves
2 Tsp. nutmeg
1 1/2 C. sugar (more if you like really sweet apple butter)

Fill the crock pot (to 1 inch from the top) with the applesauce.

Stir in the remaining ingredients.

Cover, and cook in the crock pot on low for 8-10 hours.

Check after about 8 hours - the amount will have cooked down considerably -

Stir well. Simmer a few more hours until the applesauce has reduced down to a nice thich brown butter, and your entire neighborhood smells like apple pie! If desired, use a mixer to blend the apple butter into a smooth creamy texture - although some people like it a bit chunky - so go with your own taste. It makes a lovely fall gift in a pretty jar, and of course it is just yummy on warm bread!

I'll try this recipe out - and let you know how it goes!

Enjoy !!!

The Shop is OPEN !

OK - GRAND OPENING !!

The Blue Moon Treasures ETSY shop is officially open. Thank the person who gave this to you.
2.) Copy the logo and place it in your blog.
3.) Link the person who nominated you.
4.) Leave a comment on each of the blogs letting them know you nominated them.

Here are the 7 people I pass this award on to for various feats of beauty, love and magic which they help to spread to so many...

1. Darkened Sky at: http://heathersdarkenedsky.blogspot.com/ ~ who is just inches away from discovering all the beauty and sparkle of her inner spirit.
2. To the Cottage Witch at: http://cottagewytch.blogspot.com/, who has some of the most interesting and thought provoking blog entries - although- there is no "comment" feature on her entries, so I'm not sure I can tell her about this award....
3. The Domestic Witch at : http://domesticwitch.blogspot.com/ who offers such an abundance of educational and enjoyable information... as well as pics of her adorable son!
4. The Enchanted Garden Studio at : http://whimsicalwitch.blogspot.com/ who has a most charming and krativ blog!!!
5. To Laurie at : http://vintagerose42.blogspot.com/ who has the most beautiful blog... it's like visiting a secluded shore side bed and breakfast ... or like spending time in the old hotel in the movie "Somewhere in Time" with Christopher Reeves *deep sigh*.
6. To Judith at : http://merlinsmistress.blogspot.com/ who has some very cool stuff showing up on her blog on a regular basis. I would just LOVE to spend like ten minutes "browsing" around her shelves, closets, etc. :)
7. To all the gals at Witchy Chicks at : http://witchychicks.blogspot.com/ a group of authors who write about all things weird and "paranormal", and offer the greatest tips and inspiration to all us poor "closet" authors.

*Honerable Mention*
OK - trying to stay within my limits, but some blogs just need mentioning:

Rue - at : http://rueandhyssop.blogspot.com/ who just received this award, so, it would really be a repeat to award it again - but is like the old friend you call when you need some soothing for your spirit. Please check out her blog if you have not been yet.
The Vintage Sage - (blog cite noted in previous) who is always offering such wonderful pieces of joy and wisdom on her blog.
And Blackened Pheonix at : http://thedomesticwitch.blogspot.com/ who usually offers some very thought provoking posts.

OK ~~~~
Now on to the "7 things about me most people probably would not know";

1. For years I have had the uncanny feeling that if / when I "pass to the other side" it will be by drowing.. So deep, deep water usually triggers just a little anxiety.
2. I would sell my soul (maybe) to Hillary Clinton to have any of my written works published.
3. I have had 4, or 5 occasions where something I have dreamed, came true.
4. My teenage and young adult daughters have NO CLUE that I had a "wild side" before settling down into motherhood.
5. I believe that "Pretend" and "Dream" should be required classes in public school curriculum.
6. If I had a million dollars.... I would probably blow it in no time on loose spending and bad investments.
7. If I could have one wish, it would be.... to be the wife my husband deserves, and the mother my kids need.... but then again... like they say, be careful what you wish for ; - )

*Peace and Blessings*

My First Award!

So I won my first award on this blog from vintage sage ~~~

http://thevintagesage.blogspot.com/

Truly an honor *bows*. I love this herb, and it has come in very handy when I needed it. I have tried less water, more water, less sun, more sun, and have replanted a couple times, and no change. This pot in the pictures is my "rescue pot" - and I don't know if you can tell by the pics but the soil is "just moist" - and as you can see, the lavender is not happy at all. It is still warm here on the east coast - in fact today is a little humid - most plants are lush and perky - but this guy is just all washed out. Any suggestions? I did some major cuttings a while back when I needed some Lavender. But not anything that should have wiped it out completly. Even then, it was not full, lush, or deep green, and never bloomed. There is still a faint pulse, and I won't give up, so I am up for any suggestions....

I wanted to take a picture of the moon tonight because it is just breathtaking- but the batteries in my camara are protesting with that damn "depleted" warning light. The water level on the river was unusually high, and the warm breeze had little pockets of cool air inter-mingled. It was nice. Time for offering thanks for all we have acheived, and the abundance of our harvest. Time for rosemary in our kitchen, our crafts, and around the home. Time for realizing our inner balance and offering thanks for our personal abundance, to meditate on our accomplishments and what gifts we are thankful for. Time to harvest all the gifts of the Universe. How sweet we are in a new moon for this time of season.

I had planned on doing a nice mabon alter, (no, the pic's not mine) but time got away from me, and I may have to make due with a walk along the Delaware River instead, a nice chance to offer thanks and take stock of personal abundance.

*+ Peace and Blessings +*

The Season

Oh it is SO fun getting into the mood of the season. It includes getting my home in order as it is a manifestation of personal resources. It also represents recognizing myself as a resource, and my ability to use the tools I have to manifest my spirtiual self. As usual, it seemed to fit right in with the flow of things during the past week.

I was lucky to have a few extra days off from work, with some vacation time tacked on to the Labor Day Holiday, and then a state mandated furlough day thrown in that left me with some great ME time : )

I guess I was in a cleansing and banishing mood most of the week. On Tuesday I swept out the entire house - and I do mean sweep, not vacuum! On Wednesday during a ritual I was burning sage, and since we were in a waning moon, I decided it was a good time to just go through the entire house. It just seemed like ideal timing, the day after my sweeping frenzy. I smudged each room, and paid paricular attention to the rooms my daughter spends time in. She's young, and just came out of a two year relationship with her first love. I felt like it was good to just get rid of some of the sorrowful feelings that have been lurking. The TV room, usually is her "domain" to hang out with friends, the boyfriend, etc. So, I paid particular attention to that room while smudging. I was so surprised to find that the elements just have a way of establishing themselves and speaking to us, naturally. In the TV room, I found that she had hung a butterfly (deceased) she found, near the east corner of the room, and then near the west corner, she had hung a Hawian lay from a school play, and put a sea shell near by. She is not into the elements, and would not know to deliberatley represent them in that way, it had to have just happenend. I was so surprised to see the universe manifesting in such discreet ways. I plan on trying again to spark her interest in her inert abilities to hear nature as it quietly tries to get our attention.

The change in the season is such a blessing. The Pagan Census was first done about 20 years ago, compiling data from thousands of modern Pagans to give a snapshot of the pagan commuty's rise in the 1990.

Scholar and author, Helen Berger, professor at West Chester State University in Pennsylvania, has announced that she and fellow researchers James R Lewis and Henrik Bogdan are holding the census project again to help establish updated data on the pagan community, and how it has changed. Please set a few moments aside for this survey, and please spread the word to others. The more respondents the census has, the more accurate the data.

You can find it here: http://ow.ly/odHF

The authors write:“A number of scholars have noted that it would be helpful to have a follow-up survey to see if and how the community has changed or remained the same. The survey uses many, of the same questions that were in the original survey to provide some comparison. There are also new questions, for instance about the Internet, something that was of little interest 20 years ago but is now, and some from other studies, that again permit a comparison. This has resulted in the survey being somewhat long -- we appreciate your taking the time to complete it.”

If you are not sure - please google the census, or the authors names to get any further information you may want before completing the survey.

*peace and blessings*

HAPPY BIRTHDAY RUE~~~

Rue has a superb holiday coming up ! Balance of night and day, dark and light, harvest and seed. It is the doorway to the shadow time of the year (Winter). It calls for honoring of all the work we have done for the year, to complete our journeys, and to bring ourselves within.

To honor this celebration is to honor your moments of Equality: the balance of your inner and outer reality, your masculine and feminine qualities of
giving and receiving, speaking and listening, being active and being restful, making decisions and being creative.

The Autumn Equinox corresponds to the Sun crossing the celestial equator moving southward. It is based on the day when night and day are nearly of the same length (balance) and it marks the first day of Autumn.

Traditionally observed with a harvest feast to celebrate and share the abundance of the past season. A time when the plants are setting their seeds; making themselves ready for their new cycle (harvest).

This ritual is about harvesting ALL that the Universe has waiting for us, and to assist us to use this time to balance ourself and our life.
Remember, everything that is placed on one side of the scale has to have something else placed on the other side. Thus, creating and maintaining balance; look closely at our life's balance, shifting what needs to be shifted or changing what needs to be changed, to help balance the scale.

The time before the Autumnal Equinox should be spent contemplating what you are willing to honor to be in your state of Harvest. It is a time to contemplate what you have achieved and what you are thankful for.

Some Autumn Ritual Pratices ;

Establish the Spirit of Purpose (i.e. what you wish to accomplish and how you want to align with the energies of the Universe to do so)

Choose candles that are the colors of fall leaves; colors of abundance, reward, and completion.

Use the essences of Apple, Cinnamon, Frankincense.

Bring in Rosemary or Poppy.

Use stones of Calcite, Opal or Turquoise

"I Am Living in the Light of Abundance"
"I am Creating from the Light of Constant Flow"
"I AM Abundance"

“Goddess I call to you now
Listen to my solemn vow
I choose to walk in abundance and gratitude
and desire to live a positive attitude
Assist me now, I call to you
Help me stay balanced in all I do.”

*Peace and blessings*

Another exciting giveaway by domestic witch...
http://domesticwitch.blogspot.com/2009/08/queen-of-cups-giveaway.html#comments

I think this is such a cool idea. And since I never seem to find time to organize all my notes into one big book, I ended up adding little yellow stickies insides of the doors of my herb cabinet, to help me remember what is useful for what.
I even cut some nice Lavender sprigs to hang in the bedroom for my 17 year old daughter who is suffering from a heart broken by love, the way only a 17 year old can. For those of us who remember love at that age - enough said.
I finished a rather nice (if I may say so myself :)) Hecate image candle holder, and some black Ivy leaf pattern wall hangings. I had an altogether awesome Yoga workout yesterday. My daughter was at work and hubby was snoozing on the couch - so I made off upstairs for uninterrupted time with my antique Yoga video tape! It was an amazing session - I actually felt parts of my spine I did not know existed :)
I read my cards, and the one that really spoke to me was the Four of Arrows in the South position of my lay out. The Four of Arrows; Contemplate your blessings; ...."the road traveled by others may not lead me to my destination..... live today within your means and see how peaceful it can be there.....".
I'll keep this card with me all week for daily reflection. Since I don't have time to pull a new card everyday - and since it takes me more than one day for deeper recognition of the cards essence, this gives me a chance for fuller devotion and contemplation of the cards qualities.
My list of "unfinished business" will include making candle holders with some nice Waterhouse prints. I hope to take a walk later tonight out by the river or the canal since we are still in a dark moon phase, Hecate's favored time I believe. The sky has been just amazing lately with all the storm activity and thunder storms. I just was not adventurous enough to go out in it last night, but it seems tonight will be calmer. My mission for tonight is to go up the canal a piece behind a larger property nearby for some nice willow brances for my circle out back. If I am lucky, I may find more pine cones, since the squirrles continue to steal mine from my circle, leaving my north quarters rather bare !

I just have to expound on some thoughts I shared with a fellow blogger about women. See, I truly believe that all women have a regal, or "royal" blood line. Going back, and I mean way back, women were held in highest esteem, the leaders in the villages, who provided spiritual guidance, and medicine for the sick. Later religions and churches felt threatened, and women eventually were pushed to the background - but - the calling and birth right remain for all women. Our true talents lie sleeping or dormant for many of us. There is magic in all of us, thats one of the perks of our natural calling. On August 13, a day for Hecate ceremony, I took time to enjoy the beautiful moon, and to give thanks for the gifts and talents that make the fibre of women's spirits. Brightest blessings, and a toast to all women, magickal or otherwise :D

YAY! Sometimes my schedule drives my priorities, rather than the other way around! But - either way, even with limited time, the goddess, nature, and all the elements find a way to speak. When my garden meditation time was limited, I still found the elements speaking to me as I was in the kitchen, washing and hanging fresh herbs for drying. I realized I just needed more time one morning, as I was making time for my herb garden before work. It was very early, before sunrise, but the sky was still glowing from the full moon the night before. I was washing each basil leaf with chamomile tea, hoping to chase away what ever little pest was eating the leaves away faster than I could. As I noticed the time, and how many leaves would be involved in the process, I quickly changed to a large spray bottle, rather than the little cotton ball ! :)
I clipped some fresh mint, brewed it for 20 minutes or so, then once it cooled, I put it in a little spray bottle. A sprits on the face is the most delightful toner ! And it is so cooling on a hot summer day.
My cards have been neglected this week, and they don't hesitate to remind me ! Once my wish for a few more hours comes through, I will definately re-unite with them ;)

My creative energies continue to ride wild. I found notes on other blogs about people whose creative energies peak when they spend more time on their spiritual energies. Just curious if there is a trend there.... I wanted to identify the inspiration behind my "burst". I should have everything ready to set up "shop" on Etsy by summers end. :)
Peace and Blessings

It was so nice sitting out back this morning. As usual it was early enough that no one else in the world was up yet, so I had the awakening morning all to myself. I could hear the distant rumble of a thunder storm off in distance. As I sat, and focused on the trees and quiet bird sounds, I realized that all the trees were stirring and blowing gently with the storm that was slowly blowing in. A moment before, when my mind was going a mile a minute, I wasn't even aware the leaves were blowing. I realized my mind had to become more still to even see the gentle grace around me. The lesson for me became the importance of letting my mind become more still than my surroundings.

It was a real treat to read my cards again today. I would like to read them daily, but with my schedule, it just doesn't happen. Besides, I want time to reflect on the reading, and what it means for me. So, given my time issues, I think I will shoot for reading once a week, on the weekends, with the week to reflect on the lessons that pop up. I knew tonight's reading was going nicely as soon as I pulled the Grandmother's card. Everytime I see this card I get a warm, soothed feeling. I love this card, and it's symbol (moon), and when I see this card I feel like I have guidance wispered in my ear. I prefer the minor arcana when I read, because I feel more comfortable with my intepretations of them over the major arcana. I know some people take the major arcana out of the deck and keep them in a spot where they can draw a card a day to reflect on. (I don't know if then a reading would consist of only minor arcana since the major are pulled out?) I like this idea, but I likely will have to do one card a week since it is taking me more time to cover all the bases lately. I think I will take one major arcana card a week to work with all week. And I will start this week with the Grandmother's card :)

I have been flooded with creative and crafty energy, and loving it. It is a quieting counter balance to my angst over diet, health, life, etc.

It was so nice to have a chance to read my cards today. Clearly, my favorite element is air, and I can't wait to sit outside tonight and just enjoy the outdoor summer night air.

I wanted to post pictures of the latest image candles I made. I made the goddess candle as a house warming gift for a shop near me that just reopened after being closed for a while. The tree of life is for a dear friend and her beautiful family. The pictures really don't do them justice, it's hard to capute the ambience of a lit candle on a little domestic digital camara :/

Hope you enjoy .....

circle maintenance

It's a funny thing - a few years back I had a wand, a basic dowel that I had carved and wood burned some nice designs on. So, a while back, my path changed somewhat, and I no longer had the wand. But I have always like using my wand when I cast a circle. So, with my usual wand gone, I found a nice branch from a tree, a hearty weight, and a little longer than my wand was. I have been using the branch for sometime to cast my circles, and always thinking, gee, I still need to pick up a new wand. Well, this morning it hit me, I DO have a new wand. This branch is purfect, and it just feels nice in my hands. What was I thinking? Is the answer always that clear ? I also noticed how often I have to replenish my four quarters items. I use pine cones for the North, and feathers for the east. Well, it seems the squireles are making off with them everytime I turn around and I have to keep replacing them! Thank goodness they are not strong enough to take the sea shells and fire pit!

Last night was a beautiful sky with the slight waxing moon. I cast a circle after sunset, while there was just enough light to get my fire going. Once it was completely dark, the fire was going nicely. I didn't have any wine, or cakes, my usually offering to Hekate during a dark moon, so I put some fresh basil and fresh thyme from my garden on the fire as an offering. It smelled GREAT. I love the smell of fresh basil on the fire. I asked for guidance, and put some extra blessings in for others. It was a beautiful night! While the charged feeling of the new moon is still lingering I want to read my cards - hopefully tonight. On Saturday there is grand re-opening for my favorite shop, Gypsy Heaven, who was closed for a while, can't wait to go!
Peace and Blessings !

New Moon

It's a new moon tonight, so it will be dark skies for a couple nights. Over the weekend I set up a great space outside that is isolated and quiet. I think tonights new moon would be a purfect time to bless the space, and make it sacred. It is a wonderful meditation spot. In the morning's it is full of bird's singing, and at night it is quiet and still. I have a small fire pit to burn some sage, and the four quarters are represented. The guidance I ask for in meditation comes like a wisper in my ear. When I was asking guidance from the Goddess about my writing, suddenly I was surrounded by information about new authors, and flooded with ideas. It seemed like something about writing was around me everywhere I looked. Then, just that quickly, it was gone. Proof of signs we get, and miss because we are so focused on the day to day drudgery. Last week during meditation, my thoughts kept going to the projects I am working on in hopes of starting my own business. Then I saw another blog with someone who was at the same step as me, with the same kind of project going on. I keep getting validation that my prayers and meditations are being heard. How fraustrating it must be for the Goddess to keep patience with us dummies who step right over inspiration, while looking for inspiration!! Yesterday morning my meditation was completely distracted by thoughts of things I am working on, things I have been making, and ideas of new things to create for my business, even ways to market my stuff. At first I was so fraustrated with all these "distractions" and racing thougts; bothered that I could not seem to quiet my mind. Then - I realized - maybe that was inspiration coming to me when things were quiet in my head ? So, how much guidance have I been getting that I just didn't recognize ?????
Blessed New Moon to all.
*Special blessings to Heather. I will ask the Goddess tonight for special blessings for you during this hard time.*

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_9CarU3YhO7s/SlZ54gB81nI/AAAAAAAAACg/aLVh059UCBU/s320/herb-goddess.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5356602818381534834" />
It was a beautiful night last night - the full opal moon with just a hint of orange. I gave some much needed TLC to my herb garden. The best time to garden is under a full moon, for the garden and the gardener :) My basil is tall and perky this morning and the Lavender smells fresh and vibrant. It makes so much feel "in order" when your garden is doing well. Tending the garden gives me a feeling of order, completness, fullfillment. What gifts are they that we can cherish with our souls, and nourish with our hearts.

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 253px; height: 320px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_9CarU3YhO7s/SlP33-jztvI/AAAAAAAAACY/Xjsv9Gs9xVA/s320/artemis+blue+moon-bow.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5355896922931705586" />
It's a beautiful full moon tonight. I have to be so careful not to fill my busy days with thoughts of "I wish I had", or should haves and could haves. I was lucky enough this past weekend to be reminded that I am amoung the rare few who have been fortunate enough to have experienced pure joy. There are two occasions that give me the kind of feelings that can only be described as pure joy. They are; watching my oldest daughter play basketball, and watching my youngest do ballet. I could sit and watch them do these things for hours on end, with not another thought in my head. When I become old and senile, I wish to be propped up in front of a huge flat screen TV, with a continuous loop DVD of my girls, playing basketball, and doing ballet. I would die a happy and content woman. I'm not sure all the reasons why these things effect me the way they do, but I am so thankful they do. In spite of the fact my oldest no longer plays, I still hold the memory, and the feeling it brougt to me. The same feeling was there this weekend, watching my youngest daughter dance. It was poetry, in fluid motion. I am rich. I am blessed.

EMPATHS
Empaths have a deep sense of emotions. They have the ability to pick up on others feelings, and relate to others by sensing the true feelings that run deper than those on the surface. Empaths are highly sensitive. Empaths can sense others feelings on different levels. Empaths have the ability to scan another's psyche for thoughts and feelings or for past, present, and future life occurrences. Many empaths are unaware of how this actually works, and have long accepted that they were sensitive to others. Empaths can pick up on physical illness in others. Empaths experience empathy towards family, children, friends, close associates, complete strangers, pets, plants and inanimate objects. Empathy is not held by time or space. Thus, an empath can feel the emotions of people and things at a distance.
Empathy is Inherited, it is genetic, inherent in our DNA, and passed from generation to generation. It is studied both by traditional science and alternative healing practitioners. Empathy has both biological/genetic and spiritual aspects.
How Empathy Works:
While there is much we don't yet understand about how empathy works, there is some information. Words, movment, etc. all cary the energy of the feelings behind those words and movements. Everything has an energetic vibration or frequency and an empath is able to sense these vibrations and recognize even the subtlest changes undetectable to the naked eye or the five senses. Empaths are often poets in motion. They are the born writers, singers, and artists with a high degree of creativity and imagination. Empaths are often very affectionate in personality and expression, great listeners and counselors (and not just in the professional area). Empaths may find themselves continually drawn to nature as a form of release. It is the opportune place to recapture their senses and gain a sense of peace in the hectic lives they may live. Empaths are often quiet and can take a while to handle a compliment. Empaths have a tendency to openly feel what is outside of them more so than what is inside of them. This can cause empaths to ignore their own needs. In general an empath is non-violent, non-aggressive and leans more towards being the peacemaker. Any area filled with disharmony creates an uncomfortable feeling in an empath. If they find themselves in the middle of a confrontation, they will endeavor to settle the situation as quickly as possible, if not avoid it all together. Empaths are often uncomfortabe in large crowds due to the overstimulation of emotional imput. Empaths are sensitive to TV, videos, movies, news and broadcasts. Violence or emotional dramas depicting shocking scenes of physical or emotional pain inflicted on adults, children or animals can bring an empath easily to tears. At times, they may feel physically ill or choke back the tears. Some empaths will struggle to comprehend any such cruelty, and will have grave difficulty in expressing themselves in the face of another's ignorance, closed-mindedness and obvious lack of compassion. They simply cannot justify the suffering they feel and see. People of all walks of life and animals are attracted to the warmth and genuine compassion of empaths. Regardless of whether others are aware of one being empathic, people are drawn to them as a metal object is to a magnet! They are like beacons of light. Even complete strangers find it easy to talk to empaths about the most personal things, and before they know it, they have poured out their hearts and souls without intending to do so consciously. It is as though on a sub-conscious level that person knows instinctively that empaths would listen with compassionate understanding. Here are the listeners of life. Empaths are often problem solvers, thinkers, and studiers of many things. As far as empaths are concerned, where a problem is, so too is the answer. They often will search until they find one--if only for peace of mind.
Written by Christel Broederlow Copyright (c) 2002Christel Broederlow is a natural born empath and author of numerous articles about empathy through personal experience and continual research.

HAPPY FULL MOON ALL !!!

<img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; The next blue moon is in December. It is said a blue moon month is a time of obtaining goals we have set for ourselves. I wonder if in December I will write how proud Iam of reaching mine, or how I am not surprised that I missed the target yet again. My current reading pleasure is Alice Hoffman's, The Third Angel. There is a chapter where Allie's fiance dies in the hospital of cancer. Reading it took me back to when I was 16, or 17, and working in a nursing home. I had to work to help pay the bills at home. I was stuck in the mud of memories of a patient I took care of named Jim. He was much younger than the average patient there - he was not there because he was elderly - but because he had cancer. He was the sweetest man. All we could do was try to make him comfortable. His wife would visit on weekends in the begining, then she stopped coming all together. I heard they divorced. I wondered if it was because he did not want her to see him sick. I know now, sick or not, nothing could keep me from trying to help my husband. The day's passed quickly for me, as a teenager, but I'm sure dragged with agony for Jim. His final days were hazed with a very strong medication known as a "Brompkins Cocktail". Another girl who worked there named CC liked taking care of Jim, he was her "favorite patient". We all had our favorites. When the illness took it's final grasp on Jim, it was CC and I at his bedside. I helped her, turning him, changing the sheets, etc. She asked the nurse on duty if he could have his "cocktail". I remember the nurse called us in the hall and said, "you know he's pretty bad, the med now might just do him in". Brave CC said, "I know - but he's hurting". So, he got his medicine, and we finished bathing him, and changing his bed. His breathing grew labored - they taught us it was called "Chain - Stokes" breathing. I felt fear and panic rolling up inside me. CC wasn't that much older than me, how did she stay so 'together' ? Finally, CC looked at Jim and said "I love you", almost in a wisper, and with tears in her eyes. Jim barely mouthed the words, "I love.." back, then he fumbled, and grasped for breath - and just smiled. Brave CC. There was no family there with Jim. No siblings, wife, or X-wife, no kids, no friends, nobody. My head was screaming, "Jim should not die alone". He wasn't really alone, Brave CC, and confused and paniced Susan in the room with him. He was not really alone, but, thats not the way he should have died. He was a good person, and I couldn't imagine there wasn't someone in the world who would have wanted to be there to wish him well on his journey. I was numb for several days after Jim died. Too much death in nursing homes. Too much death for a 17 year old, who was wishing she could have stayed in high school and gone to the prom.

What a sad and stressful night last night. How fitting it will be on the night of Mothers Day ! What a beautiful way to end a day of giving thanks for the blessings my kids are. It was actually my husband who pointed out the new moon happening on mothers day - in spite of my insistance he has only two dimensions fully functioning in his spiritual realm. I planted a few herbs, although have not yet found any Lavender or mint. I have not written in so many days now - and I keep hearing the same drill in my head "a writer writes !" I was kicking myself in the but for not sticking with any project long enough to complete - then when I read my cards last night - you guessed it - my focus and the channels for focusing was an inverted card !

Peace and Blessings

The Cage

So, for most of my adult life, I have found that my intuition is always so much stronger when I am consistant with my meditaion practice. I also have natural insticts with certain people who act as intuitives for me. Some good, some bad, but a connection of sorts just the same. A friend of mine, Andrea, introduced me to a guy she was seeing. They hung out together alot, but otherwise, I would have said they had nothing in common, except for the fact that Andrea was best friends with the guys wife. This always added a dark Karma to things between them, in my eyes. As I spent more time around "David" and Andrea, I grew ever uneasy about him. I could see a dark spirit in him that would grow very clear when he drank and partied. (I finally put my finger on it years later when I saw Johny Angelov in Practical Magic). When ever we read our tarot, there were warnings that we were keeping company with danger. "David" would always become angry and frustrated, and often ended up throwing the tarot deck across the room. He eventually 'forbade' Andrea from reading her cards. He was both dark and charismatic at once. He had a cocky imortality about him. A dangerous combination in my opionion. Soon after meeting him, I began having regular dreams, first just dreams of being under water. Then, my dream would take me underwater, but now there would be a huge black iron cage sitting on the bottom. After several weeks of seeing the empty cage in my dream, I soon started seeing "David", in the cage, locked, and trapped under water. It distutbed me, and I wondered if some kind of harm was coming his way (Karma ?). I felt even more uneasy around "David" when ever I hung out with Andrea. I told her of the dream, and we tried to figure out why I felt so uneasy with him. I saw him in danger, but felt Andrea was the one I should be warning, and I just couldn't figure it out. It got to the point that I felt afraid of him, but could never give a valid reason why. The dream continued, then, I finally had the realization that what did not seem right, was that when "David" was trapped under water in the cage, he never looked afraid, in distress, or like someone who would be drowning. That put a chill in me. I tried to tell Andrea he was bad energy. I started feeling more confrontational with "David" when we would all hang out and party as a group. I would not divert his dark gaze, or flinch from his flirtations, and I felt sure that he was "on to me", for having figured him out. Some time passed, and the dream was still returning to me, only now, I would watch, as Andrea would swim down into the dark water, and try to open the cage door, to let "David" out. And just as I should have guessed, when ever Andrea the door would swing the cage door open, "David" would grab her by the arms, pull her into the cage, swim out, and slam the door locked, trapping Andrea inside. "David" would grow huge black thorns on his spine, and swim to the surface, and out of sight. The dream unerved me. To know that I could walk in such close circles with such a bad energy and not even be aware for such a long time. "David" continued seeing by friend for sometime, always keeping things at his hand by keeping her intoxicated and feeling worthless. The relationship eventually came to a bitter and dramatic end. "David's" wife was left broken and hurt, as was my friend, who lost the relationship with "David's" wife for ever. To this day, I try to trust my instincts, and work on learning what my own cues mean. How to interpret the messages, and act accordingly. Meditaion, tarot, my rituals, all help sharpen those skills.

{Peace and Blessings}

So, I have been trying to catch up with spring. My flower bulbs and seeds are in. Now I need to plant some herbs and some lavender. The breeze at night always grabs my attention, but with all the static in my head, it's hard to actually hear it. I am well overdue for some quality "me" time with my meditation and yoga. That always helps me focus on the subtle cues from nature. The next full moon is May 9 th ; in my heart and imagination, I will dance nude along the banks of the Delaware and take in all the energy from the moon's pearl light ! In reality I will probably be in bed by 10, stealing glances of the full moon out my bedroom window ! : /
